We have an established R&D team in Portugal to compliment the HQ based in Cambridge and currently work with farms across the UK, Europe, and Australia. Fieldwork Robotics is currently backed by £3M+ in private investment and Innovate UK grant funding, looking to open a Series A shortly.
The Role:
Fieldwork Robotics are looking for a talented and enthusiastic engineer to join the team in developing a unique autonomous robotics platform that will disrupt the robotic harvesting industry. You will be responsible for taking the current robot platform through manufacture and small-scale production, alongside designing the next generation system from the ground up – aiming to start scale up production in 2027/2028. In this fast-paced growing company, this role can change and evolve depending on your skills and ambitions. In the areas outside your current experience, specialist contractors can be brought in to support you.
Key Responsibilities:

- Electronics system architecture
- Schematic capture and PCB design
- Progress existing prototype designs to manufacture / small-scale production
- Reduce the electronics / electrical BoM cost
- Achieve Machinery Safety and EMC compliance (UK and EU, followed by Australia and US)
- Rapidly develop and test proof of concept solutions and new features
- Develop verification and validation plans
- Work closely with the Mechanical, Software, and Machine Learning / Machine Vision teams
- Technical documentation (e.g. requirements, design, test, reports, and manufacture)
- Debug issues at PCB and system level
- Work with external manufacturing partners
- Safety circuit design
- Harness design
- Product roadmap (in terms of electronics / electrical)
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Take the Fieldworker v3 robot into production and achieve UK CA / CE marking working with our UK safety consultant and our UK manufacturing Partner
- Take the Fieldworker v3 robot into production and achieve Australia safety compliance with an Australian safety consultant and our Australian manufacturing Partner
- Working collaboratively with the engineering team and ops teams to Develop the Fieldworker v4.0 architecture
- Working collaboratively with the engineering team to design, build and deploy the Fieldworker v4.0 into global production
- Contribute the IP strategy and portfolio
- Contribute to the Fieldwork Robotics product roadmap, own the electronics, electrical and safety roadmap
- Understand the commercial drivers for the Fieldwork Robotics solution offering and contribute to their success through design, cost down, reliability and innovation
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in electronics / electrical engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 4+ years of industry experience in electronics design
- Proficient in Altium / Altium 365
- Experience designing electronics to interface with:
- motors, actuators, and encoders
- sensors
- application processors (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi)
- Experience with:
- Communication interfaces and standard busses (e.g. serial, CANbus, Ethernet)
- power circuitry
- simple safety circuits
- machinery safety
- compliance testing
- Good problem solving and analytical skills
- Good organisational and team working skills
- Good attention to detail
- Able to work on own initiative with minimum supervision to drive work to completion
- Ability to work on multiple projects whilst managing own time and priorities to achieve agreed timelines and outcomes
- Excellent communications skills
Desirable Skills:
- 3+ years of industry experience in the robotics/automation/machinery environment
- Experience designing electronics to interface with robot odometry (e.g. IMU, GPS, RTK)
